EV Charger Incentive Program: Applications Now Open
Sunday, Jan 22, 2023

After a successful launch of the EV Charger Incentive Program (EVIP) in 2022, we are excited to announce that a second round of funding has opened! The EV Charger Incentive Program reimburses up to 50% of the total eligible project costs, which include EV chargers, licenses and permits, salary, and benefits related to implementing the project, rental or leasing costs, professional services such engineering, construction, and installation, and more. Total funding available is up to $100,000 per applicant.

What you need to know

Applications from Underrepresented Groups will be reviewed in priority from January 23, 2023 to March 8, 2023. If you would like to submit an application for consideration after March 8, you are encouraged to apply early as applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis after March 8. Completing your application early allows it to be placed earlier in the queue.

EVIP in action

We were thrilled to see Green Economy Leaders taking advantage of the EV Charger Incentive Program last year, including the London & District Construction Association (their level 2 EV charger pictured below) and Heeman’s. For both the LDCA and Heeman’s, installing EV chargers is part of their strategy to reduce scope 3 emissions and show their sectors that they are forward thinking and care about greenhouse gas reduction.

LDCA’s chargers also offer benefits to their members on an operational level as the construction sector is seeing an increase of electric vehicles in their fleets and governmental requirements to track sector emissions. Heeman’s installed 3 level 2 EV chargers, which have the capacity to charge 6 electric vehicles at once! They leverage the energy generated from their solar installation to power the chargers.

What are the benefits of installing EV chargers?

Generate revenue – Charging stations can increase your property value and allow you to generate money through service fees. They can also encourage customers to visit your location and stay longer to purchase goods and services while waiting for their vehicle to charge.

Raise your public profile – EV chargers provide a visible symbol of your interest and commitment to sustainability. They also put you on the map (literally) when people search for EV charging locations.

Reduce carbon emissions – 25% of Canada’s GHG emissions come from transportation. EV chargers help reduce those emissions by supporting EV adoption among your customers, your employees, and your own fleet.

Get ahead of the curve – The federal government has mandated that all light-duty vehicles sold in Canada will be zero-emission vehicles by 2035. Installing charging stations will prepare your business or organization for the future and position it to reap the benefits from a growing public demand for EV charging locations.

Accelerate Canada’s low-carbon transition – One of the barriers to the widespread adoption of EVs is the lack of access to charging stations. By installing an EV charger, you’ll help accelerate action on climate change by making EV adoption more accessible.

Who is eligible?

Any legally incorporated or registered for-profit or not-for-profit organization in Canada can apply to install new EV chargers that increase charging opportunities in:

  • Public places
  • Multi-unit residential buildings
  • Workplaces
  • Light-duty vehicle fleets
  • On street
