Green Economy London will build the low-carbon economy in London, now with the added support of Western University’s Centre for Environment and Sustainability.

LONDON, ON – On Wednesday, July 17th, 2019, Green Economy London announces that Western University’s Centre for Environment and Sustainability has joined them as a Founding Partner. The support of the new Founding Partner goes towards Green Economy London’s programming that helps local businesses set and achieve sustainability targets. Green Economy London is a membership-based program which provides tools to measure emissions, waste and water usage, resources to manage them, and recognition for successful reduction.

“We are thrilled to work with the Centre for Environment and Sustainability at Western University as a Founding Partner, as it demonstrates the level of interest from the academic community to get involved in sustainability solutions,” said Skylar Franke, Executive Director of the London Environmental Network (host organization of Green Economy London).

“We’ve worked with some amazing Masters of Environment and Sustainability (MES) students and have been very impressed with their quality of work, so much that we hired a MES student as a co-op this summer! We know their contributions to Green Economy London will be invaluable.”

“Becoming a Founding Partner crystalizes our relationship with Green Economy London. Such a relationship will continue to cultivate opportunities for our students to give back to our community and gain valuable experience.  The Centre for Environment and Sustainability is proud to be associated with this new organization that will contribute significantly to reduce London’s ecological footprint.” said Stephan Vachon, Acting Director of the Centre for Environment and Sustainability.

Western’s Centre for Environment and Sustainability will be the sixth Founding Partner of Green Economy London, joining the London Community Foundation, the City of London, Labatt’s, Try Recycling, and MTE Consulting, who joined prior to Green Economy London’s launch in May. Founding Partners support the development of a low carbon society through funding and partnership support.

Green Economy London Launched with the largest founding membership of any Green Economy Canada Hub to date (12 Founding Members). They have already grown their membership by eight since May; bringing into the fold the German Canadian Club of London, Renewi, Play Away Indoor Park, the London Brewing Co-op, On-The-Move-Organics, StormFisher Environmental Ltd., Goodwill Industries, and YMCA St. Thomas-Elgin.

“We are very encouraged by the support we are receiving from organizations across the city. We have a lot of work to do, but support like this is a strong signal of the local appetite and energy for a transition to a low-carbon economy,” said Marianne Griffith, Hub Manager of Green Economy London.  “We can continue to support local businesses in driving innovations that measurably reduce their environmental impact while building a resilient business model.”

Green Economy London is committed to empower organizations to meet their environmental and sustainability goals. If you wish to learn more about Green Economy London, please visit the website: www.greeneconomylondon.ca
